Stefan Oláh
Photographer

Stefan Oláh (born in Vienna in 1971) is an Austrian photographer whose work explores architecture as a site of cultural production and transformation. He studied at the State Academy for Photographic Design in Munich from 1991 to 1994.

Since the mid-1990s, he has developed a rigorous photographic practice at the intersection of architecture, urban space, and cultural change. From 1995 to 2017, he taught at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, first as a lecturer and later as a Senior Artist.

Working exclusively with large-format analogue photography, Oláh creates highly precise visual compositions that make visible the processes of transformation, disappearance, and institutional redefinition. Since the 2010s, his photographic series and publications have established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary architectural photography, earning recognition through numerous exhibitions and institutional collections.

His recent work focuses on long-term studies of cultural institutions, including the Horten Collection, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and La Sphère in Paris. He lives and works between Vienna and Upper Austria.
